Weight-Loss Tip for Moms

I know some of you might want to lose weight and I can relate to that. But let’s get real for a minute - why do you really want to lose weight? No one puts “lose weight” on their resolution list every January just for the heck of it.

The "5 Whys"

Let’s find the real reason why this goal is important to you. Ask yourself “why” 5 times. Here’s an example:

Why do you want to lose weight?

Why is that important to you?

Why does ____ make you feel that way?

Why do you think weight loss will change ______?

Why is that important to you?

…..continue to ask why to dig deeper....

Usually when you have answered the “why” 5 times or more, you’ll get to the deep reason of why you’re here. And that’s the answer we really need to know because it’s the root of the mission. You can use the “5 Whys” to help you dig deeper.

No one's going to put in the work that’s required to lose weight and keep it off just for the sake of losing weight.

You’re going to do it because you miss going out with friends and family; you hate feeling uncomfortable being naked in front of your husband; you hate feeling embarrassed when you can’t do things with your family at the beach or pool, because you don’t like the way you look in a bathing suit; you hate feeling tired and sluggish; you hate that it’s hard to play with your kids at the park; you wish you could do more fun activities with your kids…

You hate that you only take pictures OF your kids instead of taking pictures WITH them… because you don’t like how you look.

Keep your why at the forefront of your mind when you’re pursuing weight loss. It’ll be the driving force that keeps you going when you get frustrated, tired, and ticked off at the process. And then every time the apathy monster rears its ugly head, remind yourself WHY you’re doing it in the first place.
